These are some of the sites and tools I use when tracking down information about a new plant:
- World Checklist of Selected Plant Families
- Extensive database of accepted plant names and synonyms maintained by Kew. Very useful for making sense of the tangle of rapidly changing names in some sectors of botany.
- AOS Culture Sheets
- Small but well done set of culture/history sheets for common orchid varieties by the American Orchid Society.
- Standard Abbreviations Of All Generic Names (Orchids)
- Handy alphabetical list of genus and nothogenus abbreviations used in the orchid trade. i.e. 'Arg.' is short for 'Aerangaeris.'
